Additional Product Notes:
How To Use The Box Beam Configurator
Available on our Box Beam Mantels, our box beam configurator is the first of its kind on the internet, please forgive us any growing pains. While it seems to be a simple task, building this so it works for you as well as the back-end of the website was a breakthrough effort. Since there are so many possible variables that could affect a custom box beam, this site is built for standard box beams dimensions. Any deviation from what is offered here in dimensions, finishes, species, etc. can't be accomplished through a tool like this yet so we ask that you reach out to us to work with you directly to ensure you get exactly what you need and envision. This is designed to be an effortless, self-serve solution to the vast number of people who 'just need a traditional box beam' which fall into standard box beam dimensions. We hope you will benefit from what we've built here and find it as effortless as others have found it to be.
How to use the beam configurator to build your custom box beam and see the cost. Mantels can be ordered immediately online as the next step. For ceiling box beams, please contact us through the 'Add to Quote' request or email or phone:
Select your Box Beam LENGTH:
-This is the longest dimension of the box beam--the span. You must use a measurement in FEET. You may use fractions of an inch up to 2 decimals but we recommend rounding up by an even inch as installers prefer excess for 'wiggle room' during installation. The minimum length you may use is 2 feet and the longest is 40 feet.
Select your Box Beam DEPTH:
-Depth (or height) is the protrusion from the wall or ceiling into the room. If you are looking up at a ceiling box beam, the depth would be the dimension by which the box beam protrudes from the ceiling. This could also be considered the height. You may use fractions of an inch up to 2 decimals. The minimum depth you may select is 2 inches and the longest is 24 inches.
Select your Box Beam FACE WIDTH:
-This is the "face" dimension. To understand the face, think of the box beam on the ceiling; the face width is the width of the box beam face as you look up at the box beam from your position on the floor. The minimum depth you can select is 4 inches and the longest is 24 inches.
-For unequal dimensions between Depth and Width, please contact us for a custom box beam order to meet your specifications.
Once all of these three dimensions have been entered you will instantly see the cost of one box beam.
Enter the Quantity of Box Beams you need: If you need more than one box beam of this configuration/dimensions, change the quantity. The cost will instantly update for the quantity of box beams of this configuration/dimensions. You will also be able to change quantities of each box beam added to your cart from the cart page.
-If you are wanting to place an order for several box beams and at least one has different dimensions, configure each box beam's dimensions and quantity, then add to cart. Once these are in your cart you can now go back to the box beam configurator and repeat the process for the beams with different dimensions from what is already in your cart. So, for multiple beams that are of the same type (i.e. 'Hand Hewn') and the same dimensions, you do not need to configure multiple beams then add to cart them separately to your cart. Just configure once, and change the quantity, then add to cart. Super easy!
-We do not carry ceiling or mantel box beams in stock; every box beam is custom made to your specifications.
-Depending upon specifications and total beam quantity, lead times average 8-12 weeks.
-Some configurations require seams to achieve your configured length or height. We use traditional seams that have been used for centuries. If you have a specific type of seam appearance in mind please let us know in your order notes.
-Once we receive your configured order (mantels) or Quote Request (ceiling box beams), we'll review it to ensure that the beam you've configured is possible, practical based on viable construction methods and material availability, and shipping method. If there are any conflicts between what is ordered and what is or can be produced/shipped we'll contact you within two weeks to discuss and identify solutions. If no mutually agreeable solutions are reached then we will decline the order and fully refund the purchase price. Shipping is never included in the price and will be charged separately once we quote the shipping either by parcel (UPS/FEDEX for beams under 10ft, or freight for longer beams).
-All of our custom made box beams come fully assembled and ready for you or your builder to install. We strongly recommend ordering lengths approximately 1/2" - 1" longer to allow for onsite adjustment to accommodate variations in the structure, drywall, etc. This is requested by all installers.
-Shipping is charged separately
The normal disclaimers:
-Depending upon the material in our inventory or material available, seams may be required to achieve your configured height or length. That is, if you want a 30-foot long beam, a seam may be required along this span to reach the desired length.
-We always try to avoid seams, but where practical or necessary we use traditional joinery that has been used for hundreds of years so the resulting look is authentic. As well, the patina and texture between joined boards. If your box beam dimensions fall outside of what is able to be configured here, please call us to discuss to ensure you receive the information and price you need. Call 949-244-5123, email email@example.com, or use our contact form/quote request form where you can actually list each box beam and dimensions you need.
-No two pieces of wood are alike and no two pieces of reclaimed or new wood will exactly 'match'.
-With new wood (i.e. New European White Oak) there is far more consistency between boards. However, with Reclaimed Barn Wood and other species specifically, there is infinite variability between boards in the grain, defects, and patina. Thankfully, this variability is the primary draw to, and interest in reclaimed wood. That said, we do not try to 'match' dissimilar boards (i.e. when joining boards to make box beams, seams, multiple beams for the same room, etc.), rather, we coordinate boards so the overall look flows and the variability in character remains. To be extra clear on this, the reclaimed wood you receive will not "match" any images on this website, but be similar.
-As the name states, 'custom' box beams are made to order for you. Once the building of your box beam begins we cannot offer refunds or exchanges.
-Lead Time To Ship:
8-12 weeks from date of order, or from date of approved sample (if a custom finish is selected). It does not take this much time to actually build your custom box beam of course. By placing your order here, you are securing your position in our production queue.
Due to ever-increasing shipping prices, shipping is no longer included. Beams over 10ft cannot ship by parcel (UPS/FedEx) and will need to be sent by semi (Less Than Truckload Freight). Once your order is received we will run a shipping estimate through several LTL carriers and provide you with the separate shipping cost. This will be collected separately prior to shipment. Since there is such a delay between the shipping quote and the actual shipping date, an updated shipping quote will be done three weeks prior to completion of production. Shipping costs (be they by parcel service like UPS or FedEx, or LTL Freight) will be passed through to you as a separate transaction and due two weeks prior to completion. Please note, LTL shipping rates we are currently receiving start at $2,000 with dedicated trucks (only your product is on the truck) starting at $4,500.
-Freight shipping requires someone over the age of 18 to sign for the delivery. The freight carrier will never unload the items from the truck. It will be your responsibility to have sufficient people onsite for delivery and to hand off-load the box beams or have a forklift onsite to unload if a flatbed trailer is used--we will advise you which will be required once we arrange shipping.
-Once delivered, your box beam can never be stored outside. The change in humidity, intensity of sun and temperature changes all affect the box beam seams and material. Once delivered, you should plan on immediately moving the box beams indoors until ready to install
Resawn Reclaimed Barn Wood Box Beam Fireplace Mantels
Reclaimed Resawn Barnwood Box Beam Fireplace Mantels
An alternative to solid reclaimed barn wood mantels is building a hollow box beam mantel. Doing so allows you far greater precision in the final mantel dimensions. A box beam fireplace mantel is lighter and easier to install as well. Consider a box beam mantel when tolerances of your installation are more exacting an where you need more control over the final look. We make box beam fireplace mantels in all of our materials, including; hand hewn barn wood, and rough sawn barn wood.
This listing is for Reclaimed Resawn Barn Wood Box Beam Mantel.
Be certain to select the option of "Yes-Capped Ends" otherwise the ends will be open like a ceiling box beam.
"ReSawn" is the term used when the beam is 're-sawn' to cut away the original face 'skin'. We use the original face skin of either hand hewn or rough sawn beams to make box beams, flooring, or a number of other custom products.
The solid core that remains is the resawn core.
In days-of-old, this resawn material often had heavy bandsaw chatter marks from the blade skipping or from a bent tooth. Our state of the art machines however leave very little if any chatter marks behind, leaving a smooth surface.
For a resawn box beam we cut another 'skin' of material away from the resawn beam core. The material can be left as-is, or we can additionally sand the surface and even apply a clear or custom color stained finish to it. If you'd like your resawn box beam to be sanded even smoother and have a custom stain/finish applied then please do not order here, instead; please contact us for a special order so we can discuss the finish process with you.
This listing is for unfinished reclaimed barnwood ReSawn Box Beams.

What are box beams?
Box beams are hollow beams made from the skins of solid beams. Not to be confused with faux beam which in our vernacular mean new wood, hand distressed, hand colored to make them appear vintage. Box beams are most commonly seen as architectural elements for ceilings.
Box beams are handmade and like the timber they come from; no two are exactly alike. Box beams made for your project will coordinate with each other.
Our reclaimed box beams are built with antique reclaimed barn wood beams and push your design over the top. Box beams are a great way to hide existing structural supports or just to add to the room's aesthetic appeal. Box beams offer the look of solid beams with the benefits of custom sizing and lightweight installation.
We hand make box beams for your project in rough sawn, hand hewn, and Resawn which is the antique wood that remains once the outer patina skins have been removed.
Box beams replicate the look of solid timber but have an improved workability and practicality: they’re uniform in size throughout the length of the beam, are available in any length and width combination, are lighter and easier to install than solid beams.
If you would like a custom (colored) finish, please do not order from this listing. Instead, please call us at 714-557-9655 to discuss your project and arrange for samples to be made for your approval. A custom finish is an involved process, far outside the ability of a website to capture; and even if possible we'd prefer to work with you directly one-on-one.
